I sat at the cinema longer than I should have, going through a quick introspection into my life and wondering whether I missed an announcement of the new April’s Fools day and this is Africa, so anything is possible.
Although the ending of Infinity War felt real, tears and all, it couldn’t be actually real, right? I mean, what game is Marvel playing?
So many questions and so much waiting. It will take us reaching 2019 to get the answers, hopefully all from Avengers 4.
Meantime, let’s talk about everything that led to the horrific ending. Buckle up, there are spoilers ahead.
Thanos, the powerful warlord from planet Titan has always wanted to save the world from human and alien created overpopulation problem, which according to him, is the reason the for the worldwide impending doom, the desolate wasteland.
This, of course, is a problem literally close to home, as his realm was incredibly overpopulated, leaving resources a little thin and ultimately led Titan into the worst overpopulation effects, a wasteland.
Since then, Thanos decided he was going to do the right thing, that is to correct the wrongs. In his eyes, the only way to do that is to obliterate half the population in the universe to allow a completely fresh start.
In order to achieve all of this, Thanos needs all six infinity stones as we had previously explained.
And the Avengers in collaboration with Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy is tasked to stop Thanos from doing any of that. But will their passion for saving the world win over Thanos’ passion and years of determination coupled with his narcissistic rigor?
In the first scenes, we quickly learn that Thanos already acquired some of the infinity stones. The power stone, which he obtained by destroying Xander, then the space stone he took from Loki before removing him from existence and the reality stone taken from The Collector in Knowhere.
The Guardians of the Galaxy, with Thor’s assist, decipher that Thano’s next move was to go to Knowhere for the reality stone and then devised a plan to split into two teams, the other is to travel to Knowhere to stop Thanos from getting the stone and the other group to help Thor to build a weapon powerful enough to defeat the now powerful Thanos.
Gamora, against our warnings through the screen, joins the Knowhere team, leading herself right at the hands of her father, who later sacrifices her life in exchange for the soul stone.
You can collect the tissues now, things get serious and emotional.
Back on earth, Avengers and Doctor Strange fight off Black Order Lieutenants aka Thano’s Children who are tasked with taking the time stone from the strange doctor. But when that fails, Thanos gets it himself through Doctor Strange’s sacrifice in exchange for sparring Iron Man’s life. These scenes are obviously not without any comic relief, where there’s Spiderman, there are jokes about.
Leaving him with just one more stone to achieve his limitless power to erase everything at a snap of the finger.
The mind stone situated right at the forehead of Vision.
This next part is really hurtful to us. I mean wtf Marvel? Why did you have to bring the chaos into Wakanda? The war could have taken place anywhere else. Also, T’Challa what the hell man, sorry, I mean King?
As Okoye perfectly noted: ‘When you said you were going to open Wakanda to the rest of the world, this is not what I imagined.’
We understand it was the only place Vision could get proper help but well, okay, so yes, super scientist and tech guru Princess Shuri is enlisted to assist Vision. She examines him and the mind stone.
But we later, see Thanos retrieving the mind stone from Vision’s forehead after using the time stone to rewind the clock following Wanda’s attempt at destroying the mind stone.
What does this all mean? Did Shuri collect and hide the data she collected from Vision?
Either way, with that, Thanos’ mission is complete. He has all the infinity stones and yes, he snaps his fingers and boom, half the population is erased from the universe including some members of all the teams that were fighting against him.
So all in all the key players that Thanos killed before all the stones were in his possession, Heimdall, Loki, Gamora and Vision.
People he snapped out of existence, Spiderman, Doctor Strange, Starlord, T’Challa, Scarlet Witch (Wanda), Bucky, Falcon, Drax, Groot, Mantis and Shield former leader, Nick Fury and Commander Maria Hill.
The original team of Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, War Machine, and Nebulla and Rocket of Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Doctor Strange’s Wong and Black Panther’s Okoye, Shuri, and M’Baku are the survivors.
Hawkeye and Ant-man were not in the film but we assume they are still alive. And in the final scene, Maria was dialing Hawkeye before she faded into nothingness.
We don’t exactly know where Thanos landed, but there are theories, trust we could go on all day, we do, however, see him walking towards a young Gamora at some orange-looking planet.
There, the young Gamora asked Thanos ‘what did it all cost’ Thanos responds ‘everything.’
For the love of planets, what does any of this mean Marvel?
