Beyoncé takes a tumble with sister on stage

BeyoncéBeyoncé fell on stage during her latest Coachella performance and took sister Solange down with her.

The 36-year-old pop star took the festival by storm once again on Saturday (22.04.18) when she headlined for the second time, but things did not go quite so smoothly when she lost her footing and tripped in front of a crowd of thousands.

She was joined on stage by her younger sister Solange Knowles, 31, for a section of her set and the sisters were dancing to ‘Get Me Bodied’ when Bey attempted to lift Solange up.

The ‘Halo’ hitmaker stumbled and fell to the floor, with Solange landing on top of her.

But – as footage captured on mobile phones by the crowd and posted on social media reveals – the sisters laughed and rolled around on the floor for a short time, before jumping back up and continuing with their performance.

Queen B was once again joined by husband Jay-Z and her former Destiny’s Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland on stage at the California festival.

The reunited girl band performed the same medley as the week before, which included ‘Lose My Breath’, ‘Say My Name’ and ‘Soldier’.

But while the setlist was the same, the costumes for the second week were all new, including a sparkling silver leotard for Beyonce, designed by Balmain’s Olivier Rousting.

The singer was also joined on stage by J Balvin to perform a remix of his song ‘Mi Gente’.

The ‘Formation’ singer made history as the first black woman to headline the annual event on Saturday (14.04.18).

During her first performance DJ Khaled came over the speakers and said: “After tonight, Coachella gotta rename Coachella the Beychella. New name alert: Beychella!”

The singer told the crowd: “I’m so happy that I am here. I was supposed to perform at Coachella [last year] but I ended up getting pregnant – thank God! So I had time to dream and dream and dream with two beautiful souls in my belly…

“Thank you guys for sharing this with me. I hope y’all enjoyed the show.”

The singer and husband Jay-Z welcomed twins Rumi and Sir Carter last June.

Kylie Jenner has been trolled for leaving baby Stormi at home to party at Coachella

Kylie JennerKylie Jenner FINALLY revealed that she welcomed a healthy baby girl on February 1.

It seems that Kylie’s wasted no time getting back into her normal routine though, as she’s swiftly back to posting her every move on social media and enjoying a weekend at the iconic music festival, Coachella.

Her latest posts have caused some controversy, though, with some of her followers calling her out for leaving two-month-old Stormi at home in favour of the festival.

Kylie took to Instagram to share this snap of herself in a vibrant wig with the Mean Girls-inspired caption: “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.”

People took to the comments section in their droves, writing: ‘You’re barely a mom” and told her to “stay home”.

But other fans defended Kylie, saying that she’s still allowed to have fun.

Come on, guys, give her a break!

Cara Delevingne shuts down commenters who dragged her for praising Beyoncé

Like the rest of the world, Cara Delevingne watched in awe from afar as Beyoncé shut it down at Coachella over the weekend. While Cara’s response to the performance was pretty much exactly the same as everyone else’s (read: the show basically changed her life), fans called her out for “contradicting herself” after she posted about it on social media.

The model took to Instagram to praise Queen Bey’s performance, sharing a picture of the Destiny’s Child reunion set along with a heartfelt caption. “I am speechless,” she wrote. “That performance made me burst into tears and sent shivers down my spine. Especially the Destiny’s Child reunion. ICONIC is an understatement. Thank you for inspiring so many and for lifting each other up. #GirlPower @michellewilliams @beyonce @kellyrowland.”

Yet commenters decided to ask why Cara would express such a statement of support after being so vocal about the fact that she was boycotting the festival. She has spoken in the past about reports that the founder of the festival, Philip Anschutz, had previously given to organizations with anti-LGBTQ views. According to BuzzFeed, Anschutz later released a statement claiming he was unaware of any anti-LGBTQ work by the organizations and has since stopped financial contributions.

Cara has refused to set foot at the festival since the news broke in 2016 and has made #nochella one of her personal causes. Upon seeing her tribute post to Beychella, some commenters felt the model was contradicting her previous commitment. “So its ok to h8 Coachella but praise an artist who goes to the show? So many double standards in media today,” wrote one commenter. “Lol, you are fake and full of s***! You literally posted #NOCHELLA,” shared another.

Cara responded to the comments via Instagram Story, which can be seen here.

“Some people are commenting on the fact that I posted about my anger towards the owner of Coachella and then about Beyoncé. My hashtag was #Nochella,” she wrote. “I still refuse to go to a festival that is owned by someone who is anti-LGBT and pro-gun. I am allowed to shame that man and the festival and show my appreciation of an artist at the same time. Just because I love Beyonce doesn’t mean I now love Coachella. I still wouldn’t go. And I will let nothing get in the way of me showing my love or hate for something. Don’t let anyone come between you and your truth.”

Haters, to the left.

The Weeknd got emotional at Coachella while performing his song about Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez and The WeekndFor 10 wonderful months, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd gave us couple goals inspiration. From Gomez calling him her “best friend” to the undeniable chemistry in their PDA—and that time they adopted a puppy—the musicians made a really cute pair. And although they broke up six months ago, there’s definitely still some emotion there. Case in point: The Weeknd’s performance Friday during the first day of Coachella.

His song “Call Out My Name” from his new album, “My Dear Melancholy,” is rumoured to be about Gomez. The lyrics really go there, too: “We found each other / I helped you out of a broken place / You gave me comfort / But falling for you was my mistake.”

By the end of the song, The Weeknd was all choked up. Members of the audience caught it on tape:

He starts to get really emotional around the lyric, “And when times were rough, when times were rough / I made sure I held you close to me.”

Gomez reportedly started hanging out with Justin Beiber soon after she and The Weeknd broke up. As of last month, however, there are reports that the on-again-off-again couple is on a break.

Twitter really wants to pledge sorority ‘Beyoncé Alpha Knowles’ after her Coachella performance

Beyoncé AlphaBeyoncé (all hail) pulled out every single stop during her history-making, two-hour, 26-song set at Coachella on Saturday. Besides a hell of a performance, she also delivered on another front. Her costumes—which she collaborated with Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing to design—weren’t only incredible to look at, they also carried deep significance. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s used symbolism to make larger points: Her 2016 visual album for Lemonade was filled with homages to black excellence.

Some fans believe, for instance, that the gold-and-black colour scheme was far from accidental—and not just because of the beyhive beehive reference. They pointed out that the colours also represent those of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first black fraternity.

“Beyoncé’s colours are black and yellow because of the bee motif and because she’s QUEEN BEY. ALSO black and gold are the colours for the Alphas —the first black fraternity—because she’s the first black woman to headline Coachella,” wrote @danikwateng on Twitter. “LEVELS. I”M SHOOKETH. GOOD-NIGHT. #Beychella”

Then there’s that yellow sweatshirt she wears, emblazoned with the Greek letters B (Beta) and K (Kappa). Some see the Greek letter Delta in the middle, but other fans are reading the centre letter as Alpha—look closely.

That, plus the stepping of her dancers and the marching band in the back—fans are reading her performance as a homage to the HBCU experience.

Then there’s her costume change into her black top with a crest, which fans point out is symbolic of “black power and liberation,” with one noting that the four figures on the crest—”a Nubian queen, a black panther, a Black Power fist, [and] a black bee”—all underscore that theory. The ancient Queen Nefertiti of Egypt, an icon of beauty and strength, is typically pictured wearing a blue crown like the one pictured on Bey’s top, too. (And, if you remember, Bey also made a visual reference to Nefertiti during Lemonade’s “Sorry.”)

“To all the ‘why you gotta make it all about race’ people. @Beyonce’s crest is literally symbols of Black power & liberation,” @BritniDWrites wrote on Twitter. “A nubian queen, A black panther, A Black Power fist, A black bee, And on top, a winged sun w/ the eye of Horus in the middle. SHE TOLD Y’ALL #Beychella”
“I hope Beyoncé is somewhere relaxing with her kids and soaking in the praise for the stamp she just left on #Coachella,” tweeted @BAHjournalist. “Vocal and dance prowess aside, the way she celebrated her blackness was so important (her crest, ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ nods to Malcolm X and Nina Simone)”
“I really hope once the #Beyonce #Coachella hype has died down young fans will examine each symbol on her crest, their origins and their relevance for our ppl, I hope it encourages & empowers some to find their purpose. Art+Politics=Knowledge #Beychella,” @aisha_wish tweeted.
“Hmmm… What do we have here?,” @ibizoboi wrote on Twitter. “1. The Eye of Horus 2. Wings of Ma’at 3. Queen Nefertiti 4. A Black Panther 5. A Raised Black Fist 6. A Bumblebee 7. Greek lettering of #Beyoncé 8. All within an Ivy (IV=4) Crest 9. A Crucifix in the centre Ok! We see you Bey!✊🏾👑🐝”
Other fans point out that it’s another nod to HBCU tradition:

“LETS TALK ABOUT Beyoncé’s college crest for a sec ok? Nefertiti, a black panther, a black fist, and a honey bee. FLAWLESS,” @hugeloser94 tweeted.
Speaking of Nefertiti, look no further than her leotard-and-cape look, topped off by a glittering headdress. (And yep, that’s Nefertiti’s head embroidered on the back of Beyoncé’s cape.) Bey’s even pictured with a black feather in the Egyptian Queen’s hat, much like the famous bust of Nefertiti that was discovered in 1912.

There seems to be confirmation from the design team on this one, if you read into this quote from Rousteing from a Vogue story about the costumes: “Jay saw the Egyptian goddess cape and when B put it on, his eyes went wide and he was so excited, he said, ‘Oh, wow!’ That gave me a lot of satisfaction.”

BALMAIN X BEYONCE #beychella

A post shared by OLIVIER R. (@olivier_rousteing) on

Although none of these theories have been formally confirmed by either the Beyonce or Balmain camps, everything does seem to line up. Until then: Keep it coming, Beyhive.

ZAlebs spotted at Coachella 2018

EVERY year thousands of festival-goers from all corners of the earth descend upon the Californian desert for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Some go for the music, some go for the epic pool parties, but most go to see what fashion trends will be brought out into the desert. Let’s face it, it has become a lot more about the guests’ sartorial choices and less about the performances, EXCEPT for Beyoncé’s performance, I mean COME ON! For a long time it has been a dream for us South Africans to see Queen B live in action, some lucky ZAlebs were blessed enough to be there right in the thick of it. Yes, we’re talking Enhle Embali, Ms Cosmo and Thando Thabethe. These ladies were lucky enough to fly to Palm Springs and live their best lives at Coachella. Following (and living through) their IG stories, it not only looked like they had the best time but they were looking equally good. Take a look at some of their fashion moments at Coachella here!
