Queen Elizabeth’s cousin will be the first royal to have a same-sex wedding

Queen Elizabeth's cousinIt’s been a pretty groundbreaking summer for the British royal family so far. First came the wedding of a certain Meghan Markle to Prince Harry, which raised a few eyebrows among the more conservative populace. (Meghan is, after all, not just American actress, but a fully-rounded human being who happens to be biracial and divorced.) Now, there’s another royal wedding to be had, and it’s the first same-sex marriage in the extended royal family, according to the Daily Mail. Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Lord Ivar Mountbatten has announced that he will be marrying his partner, James Coyle, in a small ceremony in a chapel on his Devon estate. The two met at a fancy Swiss ski resort. (Sounds incredible, no?)

Mountbatten was previously married to a woman, Penny, for 16 years, and they have three children together. The exes are still on great terms, though—she’s going to give him away at the wedding, which has the full blessing of the family. “It was the girls’ idea,” she told The Daily Mail. “It makes me feel quite emotional. I’m really very touched.”

In the interview, Penny says she knew her ex-husband identified as bisexual before they married. “I could sense he was quite relieved sharing his secret, particularly with someone who was so receptive,” she says. “Because I have lots of gay friends and cousins, I’m very open-minded about sexuality. He seemed like he’d offloaded a huge burden. It definitely made us closer from that moment onwards because he trusted me.”

As for the upcoming wedding, Mountbatten says he wants to do it for his partner James. “He hasn’t been married… For me, what’s interesting is I don’t need to get married because I’ve been there, done that and have my wonderful children,” he explains. “But I’m pushing it because I think it’s important for him…James hasn’t had the stable life I have.”

“I want to give you that,” he told Coyle.

“It’s a very modern marriage,” Coyle continued in the Mail interview. “There was no proposal, just an acceptance of this great love. He cares. I care. The girls are very accepting.”

Cheers to this incredible couple—and hooray for another royal wedding for the books.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s date nights sound a lot like ours

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle In the weeks leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on May 19 (and, let’s be real, well after the big day) we’re here for pretty much any details we can learn about the two lovebirds. Now, intel from a royal expert proves that despite being royal, at the end of the day, the couple are truly just like us—complete with a night in involving a Netflix binge of The Crown.

In an excerpt from Harry: Life, Loss, and Love that was published by the New York Post on Saturday, royal expert and author Katie Nicholl give a detailed look at Meghan and Harry’s relationship.

Our major takeaway? According to Nicholl, the two might be out and about for royal engagements and appointments during the day but come evening and they’re homebodies who enjoy time in their Nottingham Cottage, one of the smallest buildings on Kensington Palace grounds. (Meghan’s even put her own touch on the decor, which includes Le Labo’s gloriously scented Santal 26 candles.)

“An accomplished cook, Meghan loved to make extravagant dinners for Harry, and they enjoyed staying in and eating her delicious homemade meals and watching films and TV shows like The Crown on Netflix,” Nicholl writes. That makes Prince Harry the third member of the royal family to enjoy the autobiographical series — his first cousin Princess Eugenie and the show’s subject Queen Elizabeth II are also rumoured to be fans.

Per Nicholl, Prince Harry supposedly knew Markle was the woman he was going to marry at his friend Tom Inskip’s wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica: “At one point he was dancing so enthusiastically to a Michael Jackson song with Meghan that he accidentally crashed into a waiter and sent a tray of drinks flying,” Nichols wrote. “At the end of the night there was a slow dance, and after Harry escorted Meghan onto the dance floor for a final twirl.”

So next time you feel a little lame for staying in, just remember that you’re not alone—Harry and Meghan just might be curling up with a rerun of New Girl on the other side of the pond.

Prince Harry rolls his eyes at Liam Payne to make Meghan Markle laugh

If like us, you’re obsessed with Meghan and Harry and are on constant royal wedding watch, you’ve probably already seen these pictures of our beloved couple arriving at the 2018 Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Meghan was giving us major bridal vibes with a white tailored coat from Amanda Wakeley, while the Prince was wearing a navy fitted suit with plum-hued tie. Honestly, they looked so great they could just get married like that.

While we might have seen them walking into Westminster Abbey, what we didn’t see is what happened inside – more specifically while Liam Payne was performing.

When Liam Payne took to the stage to cover John Mayer’s ‘Waiting for the World to Change,’ Prince Harry had a hilarious reaction – raising his brows and sort of rolling his eyes to make his girlfriend giggle. The whole thing was caught on camera and, obviously, is now all over the internet:

Some people seem to think the reaction was mainly due to Liam fist-pumping once the performance was done. And, yeah, we have to agree it was very ‘guy who whips out the acoustic guitar at a party’ of him.

Meghan thought it was funny, we thought it was relatable and the internet is happy – so all in all, it’s a great day.

Meghan MarkleMeghan Markle fulfils our Royal Family dreams by deleting her social media accounts.

Oh, the royal dream! No responsibilities bugging you! Wealth beyond your wildest dreams! And next time Twitter is mad at Donald Trump, I don’t have to say anything! That’ll be nice, right? Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence called out Emma Stone for changing Golden Globes plans.

Jennifer Lawrence knows how to make an awards night memorable, whether she’s accepting an honour, taking a tumble on the red carpet or — as it turns out — not even attending. On Sunday night, the actress intended to make the rounds at a few Golden Globes after parties with her pal and fellow star Emma Stone. But as she revealed in a video she shared on Facebook, their plans suddenly changed. Watch here:

Zoe Kravitz Golden GlobesThe real reason why so many stars wore emeralds to the Golden Globes

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards was more than just a party. The red carpet was dominated by a sea of elegant black gowns. A-listers donned the hue as a statement of solidarity, sisterhood and support for the Time’s Up initiative, which aims to put an end to sexual assault and gender inequality in the workplace. A more subtle way some of Hollywood’s leading ladies showed their dedication to the cause was by accessorizing their ensembles with emerald jewels. Beyond simply being gorgeous, these precious green gems are deeply symbolic. Emeralds have long been associated with divine feminine power — birth, fertility and creation. Plus, the green color was special to the suffragette movement that fought for women’s right to vote.

It isn’t news we’re obsessed with Emrata’s glossy locks. The actress and model’s looks can fill anyone with beauty envy. So when we heard Emily was going to be the new face of hair authority, Kérastase, we knew the collab was bound to be good.

Kanye West sent Kim Kardashian some fashion advice

Anyone who picked up a tabloid in the aughts knows that oversize sunglasses were once the great staple accessory in celebrity fashion. But Kim Kardashian, has abandoned these once-iconic, face-obscuring frames in favour of even more nostalgic eyewear: teeny-tiny, 90s inspired sunglasses. And apparently, this eyewear switch-up can be traced back to one Kanye West. “[Kanye] sent me a whole email like, ‘You cannot wear big glasses anymore,’” Kim explained. “He sent me like, millions of nineties photos with tiny little glasses.”

Um, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are distant cousins

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle was born in California and is the daughter of two film industry veterans. Prince Harry, obviously, hails from England and is an heir to the British throne. Their backgrounds are wildly different, but a new report from the Daily Mail reveals Meghan and Prince Harry have more in common than they think. Are you ready for this? According to the publication, they’re cousins — albeit incredibly distant ones. (Fifteenth cousins, to be exact.)

It’s important to remember that being fifteenth cousins with someone really doesn’t mean much. We’re, like, 80 percent positive everyone is related to everyone if you look back far enough — so don’t let this news stop you from shipping Meghan and Prince Harry.

It is an interesting tidbit, though. A genealogical investigation conducted by the Daily Mail shows Meghan and Prince Harry are related through a late fifteenth-century ancestor of the Queen Mother. His name is Ralph Bowes, a high sheriff of County Durham, who lived from 1480 to 1516. Bowes’ grandson, Christopher Hussey, was a founder of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and his lineage led to the birth of Meghan.

Meanwhile, Bowes’ great-grandson, Sir George Bowes, became a member of Parliament during King Charles II’s reign; he and Prince Harry are directly connected — just generations apart. Interesting, right? (You can read the Daily Mail’s full genealogical report here.)

Meghan and Prince Harry began dating in October 2016. Their relationship is meticulously covered despite the fact they rarely discuss it publicly themselves. “We’re a couple,” Meghan told Vanity Fair over the summer. “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Kate Middleton just got BIG news about the tabloid that published her topless photos in 2012

The verdict is in: Two French gossip publications will have to pay up after publishing topless photos of Kate Middleton.

Back in 2012, the French magazine Closer and the local newspaper La Provence published photos taken with telephoto lenses of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing topless with Prince William at a chateau in France. Closer‘s headline translated to “Oh My God: the photos that will go around the world.” Sure enough, the photos spread to other European publications — despite the couple’s getting an injunction against their further use.

After the photos came out, William and Catherine sued Closer‘s editor and owner and the photographers who took the pictures — who were part of a celebrity photo agency — for violation of privacy. Five years later, they’ve now been awarded 100 000 euros (R1.5 million) in damages by a French court — significantly less than the 1.5 million euros they asked for.

The Closer executives were each fined 45 000 euros (R692 000) — the maximum fine — and Catherine and William each got 50 000 euros (R768 000) from the executives and photographers.

Closer’s lawyer, Paul-Albert Iweins, argued at a hearing in May that “the public and private lives of the royal couple are so closely linked as to be inseparable” and “it’s of public interest to know that future heirs to the throne have a solid relationship and are getting on well.”

In a letter read by his lawyer during the same hearing, Prince William said the scandal was “particularly shocking because it reminded us of the harassment that led to the death of my mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.” (Princess Diana died in a car accident after her vehicle was chased by photographers in Paris.)

Soon after the photos were published, St. James’s Palace said in a statement that they represented a “grotesque and totally unjustifiable” invasion of privacy. It continued, “The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so.”

All the times the royal family gave us #familygoals

Since the announcement of Kate and William’s third pregnancy, speculation has been rife as to whether the pair are consciously choosing to defy tradition. It certainly looks that way, as not since the Queen’s four children has any royal prince had more than one sibling.

William has long been said to take after his grandmother, rather than his fussy and extravagant father. However Kate’s upbringing is no less an influence on the pair’s life choices, as she herself is one of three siblings, and shares the same closeness with sister Pippa and brother James as William does with his own brother Harry.

We’ll leave the guesswork up to you though, as pics of the soon-to-be sibling trio are what we’re most looking forward to. So in anticipation of the future little royal we’ve rounded up our favourite pictures of the world’s most famous family!
