The TV Update

Between not paying for DSTV and streaming series, I had to find a perfect balance between my TV watching and streaming. I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised with the line-up on SABC3 and also some new series .

Here are a few of my new favourite shows at the moment.

The Hostess

The first season of The Hostess ended a couple of weeks ago but I never for a million years thought I would enjoy this show as much as I did. The production was incredible, Top Billing quality, that had me hooked from the start. What I sincerely and thoroughly enjoyed about the show was that it was practical, I never know you could stretch R2500 to serve up a gourmet feast for ten people. I also liked the fact that the dishes were simple enough to make and replicate at home. (I have tried a lot of their dishes). Let’s not forget Lorna Maseko’s crazy, break-into dance, ingredient innuendo character. Her relationship with Thabo, the assistant was cute too. Overall it was funny, entertaining and taught me to whip up a few good meals on a budget. Cannot wait for the second season.

The Intern by David Tlale

I am a sucker for a reality TV show especially if the HQIC is someone like David Tlale. I live for the drama darling and that chair that has flown to many provinces than most of us. Seriously though, kudos to the great production. I like how David is real and has high expectations of the up and coming designers. He might be a little shady and a tad saucy but he is pushing for the designers to be the best there is and who better to learn from than the king himself. I am slowly easing into it and I hope that there’s interesting challenges coming our way.

Odd Mom Out

If you’re in the mood for a hilarious sitcom, the Odd Mom Out is just the perfect one to watch. The show navigates, friendship, fitting in (in society in this case the upper east in New York), marriage. The writing on the show is funny AF, you will be in stitches when you see and here how they comically ridicule the wealthy, Wall Street, Chanel wearing, Luncheon organising wives of the upper east side. I recommend it for a pick me up after a day of adulting.
PS: It is not that new, I just caught up to it.

The Bold Type

I just discovered this series via Twitter (read Zamani). It is the second coming of Sex and the City. It is young, fresh and sexy. The series follows the lives of three girls in their early twenties who have just started working full time at magazine house, very Cosmopolitan magazine-ish. They are navigating careers, friendship, sex and sexuality while looking hot. Oh, to be young and carefree.

Daytime Divas

Daytime Divas is a new TV show based on Star Jone’s best-selling book, Satan’s Sisters. The show is also loosely based on Star’s days at The View. It stars one of my favourite people ever, Vanessa Williams who plays the role of Maxine Robinson, the creator of The Lunch Hour, a daytime talk show with a panel of four/five different women, from all walks of life who share their point of views on everything. There have also been guest stars like Tamera Mowry-Housely, Eve, Tichina Arnold, Patti Labelle and Tasha Smith. Daytime Divas is (in my opinion) one of the best all-female-led “Dramedy” shows since Desperate Housewives.

This Is Us

I am not going to say much about this is us, except that it gives me all the feels. It is by far one if not the best TV show to come out this year. We are waiting for season two but boy oh boy, this show has me doing the ugly cry every single day. The stories are beautifully told and written, you cannot help but connect with every character on some level. Do yourself a favour watch a trailer and I promise you, you will be on the This Is Us bandwagon.

Are you watching anything interesting? Do share!

A Bachelor’s Stir Fry Spaghetti and Chicken Breast with Blue Cheese Sauce.

I greet all bloggers in the name of good food! Well, first things first, I’m a Johannesburg-based bachelor who is totally crazy about food. I did not go to a cooking school nor am I a qualified chef, but I just love food and cooking for me is therapeutic. I have recently decided to share this love of cooking with the world and created an Instagram page (@bachelorskitchenmzansi) where you all can find more of my food craze. I will be serving exciting, easy, quick and fun recipes, bachelors, bachelorettes, and kitchen-confident folks alike can whip without any frustrations on a weekly.
For this weekend I am looking at a Stir Fry Spaghetti and Chicken Breast with Blue Cheese.

You will need the below for the Blue Cheese Chicken Breast;
1) Butter for frying
2) Two chicken breast (for tonight’s dinner and tomorrow’s lunch)
3) Garlic salt
4) Black pepper

– Season chicken breast with Garlic salt and pepper
– Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat
– Place breasts in pan, and increase heat to medium-high
– Turn chicken frequently, until brown, about 5 minutes
– Reduce heat to medium, and cook 5 to 7 minutes, until breasts are cooked through
– Remove chicken to a serving platter

For the blue cheese sauce
1) Store-bought blue cheese sauce (I used one from Woolworth)
2) Crumbles of blue cheese

– Warm the blue cheese as per packet instructions, pour over the chicken breast and add the crumbles of blue cheese
For stir-fry spaghetti
1) Vegetable stir-fry can be prepared as per packet instruction (I added a little chicken stock for great flavour)
2) Spaghetti can also be prepared as per packet instruction (I added a little olive oil and salt to keep the spaghetti alive while cooking)
3) Once spaghetti is done, pour and mix into the stir-fry.

And voila! You have yourself a plate that looks like this.

Who is the bachelor? – A bachelor that spends a lot of time in the kitchen experimenting with food. A fearless foodie and experimenter with a passion for innovative cooking, who isn’t scared to share his self-taught platefuls with the Mzansi.

Anything Clear Your Browser Cache Goes!

Guys we’ve been hacked! Just Curious site was hacked that’s why we were unable to log on to log in our favourite site. Lelo and I have been working tirelessly to get this matter resolved quickly and as smoothly it could possibly be. It appears our sever last backed-up on May 10 2017, and our IT guys are currently working to restore any lost data as we speak… w-e-l-l type. Lol

I’m happy to announce that I started with this AG post in the car immediately after Lelo gave me heads-up that the site SHOULD be working properly and now I’m in the office finishing it off. Why am I telling you this? This means we can blog mobile and desk-tops again. Yay!

I have a lot to share with you guys but I will need time to work on articles of events we’ve attended in the past week. However, I would like to hear what you guys got and caught up to/with this week but first, clear your browser! (both mobile and desk-top/lap-top)

My AG after clearing my browser cache is, Never ever forget to LOVE yourself no matter what circumstances you may find yourself in. Always reach out to God, He fixes all, regardless…

Mzansi News Time!

Mzansi News Time! – Just Curious

Just Curious is more than a blog its a family, this week’s Mzansi News Update is from a blog who wishes to stay anonymous. Masive uthini ke:

Sunday Sun is running with Cassper’s love life, he’s apparently dating Thobeka Majozi. They say she’s from a rich family and was dating rapper Maggz. It’s claimed that she always attends his shows but opts to stay backstage or in his dressing room. I chuckled when a source said Cassper left his famous exes because of their bad reputation.

In another love story,  SS say KNaomi and Shimza are still denying being an item. They maintain they are just good friends however sources say they always see them together in his G Wagon. She said to a journalist “You guys know that you are sabotaging my relationship, right? Because I’m not dating him”.

What would Sunday Papers be without a soccer players love life? This week SS led us into Kaizer Chiefs player Pule Ekstein’s bedroom. He’s dating Skeem Sam’s “Elizabeth”.

This Pule is the same guy who happily posted a side chick on his Instagram and labeled her as such. Dating a soccer player really is on a level of it’s own.

SK Khoza is also having drama of his own according to SS, he’s alleged to have missed papgeld payments for the son he has with Lee-Anne Makopo. A source said he keeps making excuses even blaming Furgeson Films for late payments. It’s said Morna who is SK’s fiancée told Lee-Anne to stop asking SK for money. I just hope they’ll learn to put their differences aside and work together for the sake of that innocent baby.

According to Sunday World Bongani Fassie owes R34 000 in unpaid rent. They say he lives in a R1 300 per night apartment. His landlord is fed up with him because Bongani claimed to have inherited R20million from MaBrr’s estate. A friend of his said he’s tired of bailing him out because he blows money on useless things. This is sad because Bongani had a promising career as a rapper and producer. I honestly wonder what went wrong.

SW’s Kaizer Chiefs Coach headline is misleading. I was expecting to read about Komphela but instead it speaks about his assistant John Paintsil. He apparently blocked the exit gate at his complex in Glenada after his landlord got his electricity cut. He’s failed to pay rent for over 3 months. Residents were angry because most were late for work and school due to his stunt. A witness says Paintsil looked possessed and threatened those who intervened with witchcraft. Hehehe Bathong.

Still in soccer, this made my day.

Haha I can imagine what the reactions were in that change room. On the other hand it’s sad that women have to resort to this in order for men to take responsibility. Men honestly need to do better.

The story that Sunday World brought to us is of Premier League Soccer player Nkosinathi Mthiyane who was allegedly served with summons at the team’s changing room. SW says the player found police with baby mama waiting for him in the dressing room. This was of course after numerous failed attempts to deliver summons at Nkosinathi’s known address to the baby mama. Served!

SW say Karabo Mokoena’s ex boyfriend claims that he didn’t murder her; says he found her dead in his apartment and chose to burn her because he believed that he’d blamed for her death. Cruel world we live in. May her soul rest in peace.

This is Sandile Mantsoe Karabo Mokoena’s alleged killer… They dated for merely seven months and then this alleged horrific incident happened.

That’s it from us, what news caught your attention this weekend, thetha nathi.

It’s Time To Grow. Thank You JC Family!

When I think of how far I’ve come with Just Curious, it makes me so happy and so emotional at the same time. We have come a long way and we are practically family.
It’s sad that it’s time for me to say goodbye. Life is about growing, and I feel like this is it. I’ve been with JC since its birth in 2009 when my friend Lelo B launched this platform. In 2010 I became one of the writers. 2015 I became the Editor after Lelo stepped down. 2017 I am launching my own baby. I have given birth to which is going to be my new home from now on. Ossify Media will focus on African News and Entertainment. Unfortunately I will no longer be able to give JC 100% of my time.
It’s been a joy ride here and I wouldn’t change the experience in any way. We’ve had our ups and downs but still kept it together. I have learned a lot, I have made friends (real friends), I have made business connects through JC and I will forever be grateful. Some of you guys have been pushing me to grow and I appreciate that from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you so much to Lelo for this platform that has shaped me into the writer that I am today. I know I speak for a lot of JC writers when I say JC opened doors for us. It has been an amazing journey. Thank you Lelo for being my friend, my mentor and pillar of strength. When you asked me to take over as Editor, you said to me; ‘Use this space and platform to grow. Push your dreams and businesses, the resources are there – use them‘ and those words are still stuck in my head. You are one person that has a heart of gold. I love you.
To my fellow JC writers, Audacioustoni, Thato, Zeeba and Zintle, thank you for making my past two years as Editor memorable. We’ve been through it all and even lost our beloved Pako. It’s been real. Thank you so much my babies for your support and for wishing me well.
Bloggers, words fail me. You guys are special. I don’t even know where to begin. You’ve loved me, you’ve hated me, you’ve fought me, you have wished me well, you have dissed me, you have cussed me out, you have prayed for me but above all of it you have made me laugh. You guys have made my life here enjoyable. Everyone knows JC Bloggers. When people see me they are like; ‘Kiki abantu bakho‘ or ‘Yhuuuuu, Kiki your bloggers‘ that’s how special you guys are. Thank you for the memories bahlali. I enjoyed this circus. Yes I’m calling it a circus because what we went through together is something else. 99% of our moments were filled with love and that is what I choose to take with me.
This is not 100% goodbye tho, I will continue handling some of JC admin stuff where I’m needed but this is the last article with my signature.
Once again, I humble myself and say THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
One Love
