Another Mzansi funny man is taking on the international stage, repping the continent as The Daily Show with Trevor Noah ’s new African correspondent.
Loyiso Madinga was hand picked by host, writer, executive producer and our fav export, Trevor Noah to helm topical segments for the show’s African segments.
The South African rising star ended a career in advertising to pursue comedy. A decision that propelled him towards success in the funny business, first by grabbing the Graça Comedy Showdown in 2012 and then scooping the Savanna Newcomer Award two years later.
He has also made several appearances on local comedy shows, along side the country’s top comics, the likes of David Kau, Trevor Gumbi, Jason Goliath, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Joey Radian and many others.
Last year, Madinga released his debut solo comedy special Born Free-ish on DVD.
He travelled nationally as part of Trevor Noah’s Nation Wild Tour in 2015. He also represented SA at the Montreux Comedy Festival in Switzerland and Busan Comedy Festival in Korea.
Hashtag black excellence.
Reports say Noah believes that many countries around the world have Trumps of their own.
‘As wild as Donald Trump is for America, many countries around the world have Trumps of their own and since The Daily Show is in many countries, we thought “why not give each country a chance to show off their stable geniuses”?’
Madinga makes his debut tonight, with a field report from the African National Congress Elective Conference on Comedy Central (DStv 122) at 21:30.
