If you’re at all familiar with Solange Knowles, what she stands for and her work — you’ll see from the first 10 seconds of the new SZA’s ‘The Weekend’ official music video that she touched it and turned it into gold.
We’ve been long time stans of SZA since she dropped S EP in 2013, but we have become more than fans following the release of the debut album CTRL. When she teased us with the first single from the album, we lost our minds (and you probably did too, admit it).
While the entire album is a trip, there’s some songs that speak to all of us like ‘The Weekend’. It’s a matter of international importance.
Before we knew that Solange will direct the song video, it’s been known as a side-kick and stay-in-your-lane anthem but now it just went up ten levels.
Solange (and her husband Alan Ferguson) is a god when it comes to conceptualising and producing new age, long-form performance art videos. Her A Seat At The Table is prime example. The single was certified Platinum early November.
The video captures the emotions and concept behind being a side-bae. It’s beautiful and almost cathartic. SZA is also the only woman artist to clock five nominations at 2018 Grammys.
She’s up for Best New Artist, Best R&B Performance, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for ‘Love Gallore’ with Travis Scott and Best R&B song for ‘Supermodel’.
