Thembi Nyandeni’s advice to mothers

Thembi Nyandeni

Isibaya actress Thembi Nyandeni opened up about her feelings about what is happening to young women in our country and also gave some advice to mothers.

The seasoned actress spoke to Bona about what she thinks many of the issues are facing young people and how parents can help. “I am a woman and mother. So I inherently play a role of a protector, especially when it comes to women and children, these days our children are challenged my alcohol and drug abuse, and the culture of ‘blessers’. Everything is out of control. This may be because as mothers, we are not doing the best we can.”

She left a clear message for women this month. “As mothers we must be there for our children.”

Hot of the heals of being announced as a brand activator for International Cosmetics company L’Oreal and two of her big US gigs, actress and television personality Nomzamo Mbatha chatted to exclusively to DRUM about her new gig,  hosting BET International awards and Essence Festival, her plans for the future, how she is getting it right and more.

How was the experience of hosting two big events in the USA?

It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. The reception and treatment I received from both BET and Essence showed me the importance of always staying true to yourself and being present in the moment.

What did that do for you and where you see yourself as an entertainer?

Both occasions afforded me the opportunity to view myself as an outsider looking in. The BET Africa team were such a great inspiration in how they guided me in the process. In the same breath the experience allowed me to explore my different talents to their fullest potential, without restrictions myself to one category.

From the time you started even before you became as big a star as you are now, you have always worn African prints and pushed African style look mixed with modern. Was that intentional or it’s just who you are? What do you think that has done for other African girls who are definitely looking up to you?

It is innate. I hope those who i inspire take away the fact that, when you stay true to who you are, others will embrace you for that. My fashion is not to standout & draw attention, but rather to present the most confident side of me at that moment.

Can you tell me of a moment during the past two weeks when you were either nervous or the most proudest and why?

Usually I am nervous, but this time, I was overcome with peace beyond my very own understanding and a confidence that I never knew I possessed.

You were announced today as the a brand advocate for L’Oreal, what does this mean to you and your brand?

It’s incredible and comforting to know that corporate brands understand the voice that I put out and represent. I am excited for the partnership and it came at the right time.

As the years go by particularly the past two or so years you have been growing in your craft as well as your reach, what do you attribute all this to?

Investing in great management, putting in the hours of hard work, even when it’s most difficult and of course have a great support system in the form of my family.

Will we ever see Nomzamo leave SA and try out living in the US or elsewhere?

One never knows what the future my hold… Right now, am staying true to my commitments with the various professional engagements I have undertaken.

Lastly, for that young girl seating at home or at school looking from afar at your life and wishing whatever career they choose they will sour like you are doing, what’s your advice to them?

To always remain true to themselves and knowing the power of prayer. Don’t ever leave God behind in your blessings…

Jessica Nkosi reveals the pitfalls of being pretty

Jessica Nkosi

Actress and television personality Jessica Nkosi says for the longest time she has known she was pretty but she has seen some pitfalls of being pretty.

Jessica says there a  lot of misconceptions that people have when it comes to people that are considered pretty, like the fact that they are arrogant or promiscuous

“Growing up as a young girl I saw that as someone who was considered pretty the first thing that comes is that you think you are better. At the same time even as I get older I still see that. Some people think you are dumb, while others think you are annoying,” Jessica told Aryle on TouchHD.

Jessica says even though that annoys her she doesn’t take people’s perceptions to heart.

“I have people who know me well and that’s my late dad, my mom, my best friend Ayanda and my spiritual father. Those people know me at my best and my worst and that’s whose opinion I value the most,” she added.

Jessica added that even though some people think she is hard and arrogant she is actually a softie, who cries easily.

“I am a softie at heart I may come out as being hard but I cry easily, but I only breakdown in front of certain people who won’t use my vulnerability against me,” Jessica added.
