Will it take the BAFTAs for Get Out and its star to get real recognition?

Daniel Kaluuya got snubbed. Black Twitter and the black community at large felt this way after the Golden Globes decided to award James Franco of The Disaster Artist over the Get Out star in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy category.

It was a gut punch. Kaluuya deserved the award more, not just because he is black, but because he is a talented actor — but also because he is black. Also because, Franco is currently facing sexual misconduct accusations.

When will the black talent get a full circle recognition huh?

His portrayal of Chris in this box office hit horror-documentary was incredibly phenomenal and deserves all kinds of recognition.

The British actor is nominated in the ‘Leading Actor’ and the ‘EE Rising Star’ categories on the upcoming BAFTAs.

Between him and Tessa Thompson, who plays the Valkyrie with low-key LGBTQ+ undertones on the brilliant Thor: Ragnarok — we’re hoping something gives.

Also, Octavia Spencer, who features in The Shape Of Water, which is currently leading in the nominations board with 12 nominations.

This year’s BAFTAs will take place on Sunday 18 February with Joanna Lumley, who replaces Stephen Fry as host.
